Announcing AHIMA’s Vision for Transformation and 2019 Strategic Plan

As we know the healthcare ecosystem is changing rapidly due to trends in technology, proliferation of data, consumer access, and more. Many health care related organizations are assessing the impact of these trends upon operations. Recognizing the challenges and potential opportunities before us the AHIMA Board of Directors has started AHIMA on a path of change intended to increase our long-term viability and relevance. This multi-year strategy reset requires transformation so that AHIMA, our members, and other stakeholders can solve the big problems that we are uniquely positioned to address.

This communication represents the beginning of our communication plan to share the vision for a renewed organization. Throughout 2019 there will be additional opportunities to learn about our progress and to provide input into our strategy journey. Our promise to you as we journey toward a stronger association is (1) to be clear and transparent in our communication, (2) to work in partnership with as well as our other AHIMA constituencies, and (3) to maintain a steadfast focus on the renewal of AHIMA.

Our transformation journey began July 2018 when the AHIMA Board of Directors (Board) convened to lay the groundwork to revitalize AHIMA. In September 2018, the Board approved a short and long-term transformation vision. The short-term vision is supported by the 2019 Strategic Plan which will guide AHIMA’s work in 2019 while the Board and staff continue to develop the long-term comprehensive plan.
