National Accredited/Approved HIMS Programs
The state of Kansas contains three institutions that provide degrees in Health Information Management. Two of the institutions, Hutchinson Community College and Washburn University, provide associate degrees in Health Information Technology. The University of Kansas Medical Center provides a bachelors degree in Health Information Management.

Hutchinson Community College
The Health Information Technology (HIT) Program at Hutchinson Community College is located in Hutchinson, Kansas, a south central Kansas city of approximately 45,000 people. Founded in 1928, the institution is a comprehensive community college serving Reno, McPherson, Harvey, and part of Rice counties.
The HIT Program is designed for persons interested in pursuing a career which combines skills in: (1) operating computers and word processing, (2) interpreting and analyzing medical information and terms, (3) transcribing medical reports, (4) handling legal questions regarding consent for treatment and release of information, and (5) managing and maintaining the many components of health record systems and the personnel required for these systems to function. The program includes Traditional Day Students; Non-traditional Students; Day; Weekend; Limited Evening and Distance Learning

Washburn University
Internship Sites
Washburn University, located in Topeka, Kansas, strives to continue to be an outstanding public, metropolitan educational resource for the people of Kansas and the region, emphasizing excellence in teaching.
Washburn University offers course work leading to an Associate of Science Degree in Health Information Technology and a certificate of completion program in ICD-9 and CPT coding. Students in the Health Information Technology Program benefit from the highly-specialized academic knowledge of our faculty and from area health care agency experts in the clinical setting. The program is available to traditional and non-traditional students and includes distance learning.

The University of Kansas
Internship Sites
The Health Information Management Department at the University of Kansas is located in beautiful Kansas City, Kansas, a major midwestern metropolitan center. Considered as one of the top programs in the region, over the last ten years graduates have a 90% or better passing rate on the national registry exam, which leads to the credential of RHIA.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management requires two years of preparatory work at any Community College or four-year College followed by two years of professional course work at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Students are admitted once a year and begin classes in August.
"MOVING ON UP"
RHIT professionals now have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and progress to a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kansas. Through the School of Allied Health, the Health Information Management Program is now offering internet courses for those who do not have the opportunity to attend traditional classroom courses. Our students have been earning their Bachelor of Science in HIM degree since 1974 and have consistently scored in the top percentile on the national registry exam. The online degree completion program is now available to RHIT professionals across the nation. Some features of the program are:
• Online courses are equivalent to our on-campus courses.
• All coursework may be completed online.
• Our classes build on your previous HIT coursework.
• Work on your classes
